GFDA Top 10 For The Week

Here is the GFDA Top 10 for this week:

1) NaturEner began preparing for construction of the first 189 MW phase of the Rim Rock Wind Farm on the Hi Line. The facility is expected to be in operation by the end of 2012. The second phase of the project will add 120 MW of power. The CA PUC's approval appeal period ended, clearing the way for San Diego Gas & Electric to invest in the project.
2) Most of the major energy projects we have been supporting take years to come to fruition, so it's important to celebrate each milestone. Northwestern Energy's MSTI transmission line cleared another hurdle this week when the MT Supreme Court ruled DEQ had adequately consulted Jefferson County officials in preparing the EIS for the project.
3) Big Lots opened at Holiday Village Mall, creating 40 jobs and strengthening our trade area competition for regional shoppers' dollars.
4) High Plains Financial Board approved three loans: a $34,800 SBA 504 loan in partnership with US Bank to help a Great Falls business buy its own building and expand; and, $100,000 in two loans to help a Choteau business.
5) Lauren Engineers & Constructors announced their proposed oil sand module assembly facility in Bynum that would create 75-100 jobs.
6) Began work on a new out of state manufacturer lead seeking a 20 acre industrial site with rail.
7) Our brand development researchers began the Consumer Awareness & Perception Study part of the project, surveying residents of competing trade areas.
8) City of Great Falls held a downtown roundtable to present the results of feasibility studies for redeveloping the Rocky Mountain Building and the Baum-Trinastich Building. GFDA helped fund the studies.
9) Mailed our first quarterly update to investors and began our capital campaign feasibility study interviews.
10) Moody's ranked Great Falls in the top 10% of US metro areas for employment growth from 2005-2010. We ranked 32nd out of 392 metro areas (US and Puerto Rico). Amongst the 11 cities we benchmark against, we came in 4th, behind Bismarck, ranked 12th, Fargo, 8th and Logan, 29th. Billings was ranked 57th and Missoula 111th.

Congratulations to River Trail supporters who dedicated the new Bay Drive Trail connecting West Bank Park and Garden Home Park!
