GFDA Top 12 For The Week

Here is the GFDA Top 12 for this week:
1) PPL's Rainbow Dam upgrade is more than 80% complete and on schedule for power-up late this spring.
2) Malmstrom AFB gave us a list of potential construction projects for 2012. We've posted the list on our web site for interested contractors.
3) We helped a property owner obtain a contract with the US Forest Service and to get registered for other government opportunities. If you are interested in government contracting, beware of national companies charging for registration. We can show you how to do this for free. Contact Lillian Sunwall on our team at or 771-9024.
4) Presented an Inventory Management workshop in Lewistown to 19 business owners. If your organization would like free business workshops, contact Rebecca Engum at or 771-9032.
5) Craig Raymond, City Building Safety Division/Code Enforcement Officer, joined City Manager Greg Doyon at our monthly Development Coffee to discuss City permitting issues. If you would like to be on the Development Coffee invitation list, contact Jamie Gormley at or 771-9022.
6) We're starting an "Ask Your Local Official" feature as part of our new two page spread in the Tribune's Great Falls Business publication. If you have a question about Great Falls or Cascade County business or real estate permitting or approval issues you'd like to get answered, send your question to Shaun Tatarka at or call 771-9025.
7) January 17 is the last day to sign-up for ExportTech Montana, a customized export training program for Montana companies. For more information, contact Rebecca Engum at or 771-9032.
8) We hosted a visiting accreditation team from the International Economic Development Council, the final step in our effort to become the first economic development organization in the Rocky Mountain west to win accreditation. Thank you to all who made time to meet with the team.
9) The Great Falls City Commission allocated $25,000 of next year's Community Development Block Grant funds for economic development. We will propose to use the funds to increase micro-enterprise technical assistance, resulting in more business starts and expansions that create new jobs.
10) GFDA's Board elected Gene Thayer, of Montana Milling, Vice Chair, Bob Butcher, of US Bank, Treasurer, and Spencer Woith, of Woith Engineering, Secretary. The Board thanked Ed Leppien of Pacific Steel & Recycling for serving as Treasurer and Representative Trudi Schmidt for serving as Secretary.
11) Welcome to Dr. Gwen Joseph, new Interim Dean of MSU Great Falls and new GFDA Director. Thank you and best wishes to Dean Joe Schaffer for everything you've done to further economic growth and opportunity in our city and region!
12) The Montana State Chamber released its annual poll of Montana voters. 55% of voters said jobs and the economy are the major problems facing the state.
