GFDA Top 15 For The Week

It's been a busy week, so here's the GFDA top 15:
1) EMTEQ, a Wisconsin-headquartered international aerospace company, announced it will open a manufacturing operation in Great Falls that will create 60 jobs. Special thanks to the Montana Department of Commerce for supporting the project. This week we secured a $57,000 Big Sky Trust Fund grant for the expansion.
2) NaturEner USA secured a $320 million construction loan for the Rim Rock wind farm that will be built this year north of Cut Bank.
3) Rim Rock will be the first wind farm to transmit power on the Montana Alberta Tie. The Enbridge team held a day long construction planning meeting this week in Great Falls. District Judge Nels Swandal upheld the constitutionality of HB 198.
4) Lauren Engineers & Constructors announced it will start hiring by the end of January for its modular assembly plant in Bynum.
5) Great Falls Holistic Health Care opened its new location at 1309 9th Avenue South. We helped finance the project in partnership with US Bank.
6) GTF set a passenger record of 172,375 in 2011, an 8.3% increase over 2010.
7) MSU Great Falls increased enrollment fall semester by 6% over 2010 with 1,873 students, 71% of which lived in Cascade County.
8) Bonneville Power Administration signed an agreement with Northwestern Energy to consider investing in the Mountain State Transmission Inter-tie (MSTI) project. This $1 billion project could transmit energy from our region south to the big western power markets.
9) Pasta Montana was awarded Global Food Safety Certification with assistance from the Montana Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Contact Rebecca Engum on our team for more information about how MMEP can help your company. 771-9032.
10) We reviewed a new entrepreneur's business plan and offered suggestions for improvement in market analysis, cash flow assumptions and personnel planning.
11) We submitted a $1,062,000 grant application to the Community Development Financial Institution Fund, proposing to create the Great Falls Enterprise Fund, a revolving loan fund that would provide gap financing to support business growth and real estate development, including downtown and West Bank Urban Renewal Area revitalization projects.
12) The Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce appointed Cara Piccono of Payne Financial Group to GFDA's Board of Directors.
13) GFDA Board Chair John Koppelman of Wells Fargo announced the appointment of new GFDA Committee Chairs: Business Strategy Committee, Jerry Hood of Edward Jones Investment Advisors; Finance & Audit Committee, Bob Butcher of US Bank; Great Falls AgriTech Park Task Force, Dexter Busby of Montana Refining Company; Investor & Community Relations Committee, Kreg Jones of Davidson Companies; Loan Committee Co-Chairs, Dan Majerus of Stockman Bank and Allen Funderburk of Grabofsky Van Heel & Funderburk; Marketing Committee, Allan Frankl of Dick Anderson Construction; and, Public Policy Committee, Gene McAllister of the University of Great Falls.
14) Nominations are open for our annual Fire Within awards that celebrate and encourage women-owned business. The Inspire Award recognizes an established female business owner who sets an example for others. The Aspire Award recognizes a new female entrepreneur.
