Top 12 for the week of Mar 2nd

1) Participated in the Association of Defense Communities winter meeting along with David Weissman and Greg Doyon representing the Central Montana Defense Alliance. We met with USAF and DOD officials, and networked with other active defense communities. I led a discussion on defense community economic diversification.
2) The AgriTech Park Task Force met to update partners on City land use approvals, water and sewer construction and other issues.
3) The North Industrial Area Task Force met and made decisions on next steps for transportation improvements in the MaltEurop plant area.
4) We started work with two local companies, one seeking financing for expansion and another for refinancing. We worked with another local firm to better understand federal and state compliance issues to compete for a state contract.
5) Two major proposed energy projects that would benefit our region took steps forward. TransCanada announced it would reapply for federal permits for the Keystone XL pipeline. Millennium Bulk Terminals filed for federal, state and county permits to build a new $600 million coal export facility at Longview, WA.
6) Our VP of Marketing, Jeremiah Johnson, participated in the Montana Economic Development Association spring conference.
7) Our VP of Business Strategy, Rebecca Engum, received certification to facilitate Thought Patterns for High Performance 3.0 and Investment in Excellence. These two programs will be offered as part of our High Growth Company Initiative. These tools are used by some of the country's leading Fortune 1000 companies such as Boeing, Caterpillar and Oakley, as well as a number of professional sports teams, to achieve unprecedented growth.
8) I was named to the International Economic Development Council's Accreditation Committee.
9) Montana exports set a record in 2011, shipping $1.6 billion in manufactured products, a 13.4% increase over the prior record set in 2008.

10) Montana is the 10th happiest state, according to the Gallup-Healthways Well Being Index. North Dakota is 2nd. If oil and gas exploration keeps growing in our region, perhaps we can tie North Dakota sometime soon!
