Top 15 for the week of April 6th

Here is the GFDA Top Fifteen for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward:
1) We pursued energy production and support opportunities at the Montana Energy Conference in Billings with a booth featuring new energy and Great Falls AgriTech Park marketing flyers. We have Great Falls agri-processing, retail and energy marketing flyers available to help your marketing efforts. Contact Jamie Gormley at 1-406-771-9022
2) The US Energy Department announced it would start processing loan guarantee applications again for advanced biofuels projects. We've been pushing for this to finalize Montana Advanced Biofuels' application.
3) Our Black Eagle Road and Highway 87 reconstruction project was completed, paving Black Eagle Road from new turn lanes on Highway 87 south to MaltEurop. This $1.45 million project was made possible by the Montana Congressional delegation and opens up the north industrial area for development. Thank you to our delegation, Cascade County, MT Department of Transportation, US Housing & Urban Development and Federal Highway Administration for making this possible!
4) We closed an SBA 504 loan for the Great Falls Holistic Health Clinic's new building.
5) We worked on marketing plans for the upcoming Corenet Global corporate real estate summit in San Diego later this month and the RECON trade show in Las Vegas in May.
6) Passenger traffic continued to climb at GTF, up 14% in the first quarter, boosting efforts to make Great Falls the preferred trade center in Montana and gateway to the Rocky Mountain Front. Get the word out to your colleagues, out of town business contacts, friends, relatives and strangers -- save money by flying through Great Falls!
7) We participated in the Ports to Plains meeting with Canadian and western leaders seeking to improve transportation and energy infrastructure to support economic growth in the Western Energy Corridor.
8) City planning officials presented an overview of the upcoming City Growth Policy update to GFDA's
Board. It will be very important for business leaders to be engaged in this process.
9) Our strategy staff worked with several local companies and start-ups, helping to assess whether to get on the GSA schedule or to bid on individual government contracts, looking at better ways to market a product, strengthening a business plan to purchase and expand an existing company, developing new business concepts and improving financial management.
10) We reopened the commercial kitchen/shared equipment survey for those who missed it this winter. Access the survey through our website
11) In preparation for launching our new high growth company initiative, we became certified to facilitate Edward Lowe Foundation's CEO PeerSpective Roundtables.
12) The Great Falls region is in the earliest stage of new technology oil drilling exploration, perhaps at the point Williston, ND was 10 years ago, according to industry leaders. And, we don't know what direction the current exploratory wells will point us. It's exciting to note, however, that Williston is the fastest growing micropolitan area in the US, growing 8.8% from April 2010 to July 2011 and its unemployment rate is 0.8%.

13) We have reopened our search for a Fund Accountant with extensive non-profit and federal fund and grant accounting experience. The job posting is on our web site EOE

14) I was appointed to the International Economic Development Council's Public Policy Advisory Committee.

15) The Shelby Intermodal Hub is under construction. NatureNer will use the facility to support construction of the Rim Rock wind farm. The Hub will support economic growth throughout our region. Congratulations again to Shelby leaders for persevering to make this happen and thank you to everyone who has helped make it possible!
