Top 12 for the week of Aug 24th

Here's the GFDA Top 12 for last week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward.

1) We secured a tentative deal with one of the major industrial prospects we've been working with to invest $15 million in the first phase of a manufacturing complex on 100 acres in Great Falls. The first phase will create 300 high wage primary sector manufacturing jobs. Thank you to the many GFDA partners and investors who helped us win this multi-state/province site location competition!
2) Our marketing efforts continue to pay off. We secured three new primary sector prospects this week.
3) We reached agreement with the City Attorney on the Annexation Agreement for the Great Falls AgriTech Park and worked with the one of the Park's first tenants on plans for rail construction.
4) We underwrote two SBA 504 loans to support expansion of Great Falls businesses.
5) We funded a grant from our Brownfield Loan Fund to the Great Falls Community Food Bank to pay for asbestos removal as part of their improvements.
6) We completed work on the Great Falls Brand Strategy logo and graphics. As soon as we have funds available, we'll start the final phase to put together an action plan for use of the brand strategy. Our goal is to boost tourism, business investment and attraction of new workforce using a coordinated long-term Great Falls brand strategy.
7) Our business strategists were very busy this week. We helped an existing Great Falls business learn how to better use market research to increase sales, helped another business with its business plan, cash flow projections and marketing strategy, helped a business structure financing to fund an expansion and helped a local business get ready to compete for a federal contract. We also worked with two entrepreneurs, one looking to start a business in Great Falls and another looking to purchase and grow a rural business. One of our strategy clients secured bank financing this week and is moving forward with opening a new business in the City!
8) Cascade County gained $1 million in increased annual property tax revenue resulting from new investment including the Rainbow Dam upgrade.
9) The deadline for SBA 504 Refinancing Loans is fast approaching and there is no guarantee this special low interest financing will be extended. You must act today to get a loan approved by SBA by the September 27 deadline. Contact Jeremiah Johnson at 1-406-750-3285 or JJohnson@GFDevelopment.org
10) Brewer & Distiller International magazine based in Great Britain produced a feature article on Malteurop's Great Falls malting plant. Malteurop is the world's largest maltster operating 24 plants in 13 countries. The Great Falls plant processes 200,000 tons of barley a year. The company is owned by a group of French agricultural cooperatives.
11) Congratulations to TD & H Engineering which cut the ribbon on its new office building and laboratory in Great Falls!
12) Great Falls scored in the top 10% of 259 smaller U.S. metro areas in the Milken Institute's 2012 Best Cities for Successful Aging ranking. The ranking is based on 78 indicators in 8 subcomponents (general indicators, health care, wellness, living arrangements, transportation/convenience, financial well-being, employment/education, and community engagement). We ranked 23rd of 259. Amongst the 12 western metro areas we use as benchmarks, we scored 5th (Bismarck's overall ranking was 3rd out of 259, Missoula 8th, Rapid City 10th, Billings 21st, Grand Forks just behind us at 24th, Logan 40th, Casper 92nd, Grand Junction 108th, Idaho Falls 149th, Coeur d'Alene 142nd and Yakima 252nd). Thanks to our friends at Benefis for sending us the ranking.

Enjoy another beautiful Great Falls summer weekend!

Brett
