Top 11 for the week of Sep 30th

1) Hosted a number of very positive meetings in town with our Canadian prospect. Worked with a new hotel prospect on financing, a wind farm developer on financing and a local developer. Secured a new agri-processing lead.
2) The MT Dept. of Transportation approved a $225,000 loan for rail service to the Great Falls AgriTech Park. We made minor revisions to the Storm Drainage Report requested by the City's Public Works Dept. and MT Fish Wildlife & Parks.
3) Easter Seals Goodwill started work on their new downtown headquarters.
4) The Great Falls Downtown Partnership elected officers for its first year: Chair, Sheila Rice of NeighborWorks Great Falls; Vice Chair, Joan Redeen of the Downtown Business Improvement District; Treasurer, Brett Doney of GFDA; and, Secretary, Martin Fleck of the Downtown Great Falls Association.
5) One of our business strategy clients secured bank financing to purchase and expand a local business. We began underwriting the gap financing for the project. We worked with an existing business preparing to seek bank financing for expansion. We had a successful state program review of our Small Business Development Center program.
6) Started work on a grant application to the Environmental Protection Agency to create a brownfield assessment grant program that would help developers to assess properties for redevelopment.
7) We've become an in-kind sponsor of the Montana Downtown Conference being held October 24-26 in Great Falls. Register for the conference at
8) Participated in the Imagine Great Falls Growth Policy Update Environmental Working Group. The City's Planning and Community Development Dept. is hosting these visioning sessions to gain public input as to what we want our city to look like in 2025. The process is divided into four categories: Social (which is completed), Environmental, Economic and Physical. Each group meets three times. Check out the schedule at
9) Met with Acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank and discussed how to improve national economic development programs at the opening day of the annual conference of the International Economic Development Council.
10) Completed the FY 2012 Audit for High Plains Financial.
11) GFDA's strategic planning process was featured in the International Economic Development Council's Economic Development Now.

Congratulations to Gardens from Garbage on the announcement of the new FRESH Orchard Garden in Community Hall Park that will produce fresh produce for the Great Falls Community Food Bank!
Thank you to volunteers who planted 62 new trees in the West Bank Park to create the Gary Trescott Memorial Grove and to Northwestern Energy for donating the trees!
