Top 10 for 2012

Here's the GFDA Top 10 for the year 2012, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!


1) EMTEQ opened an aviation manufacturing facility in Great Falls after we won a multi-state and country competition.

2) The ADF Group announced plans to build a steel fabrication and assembly plant in Great Falls to open in the fall of 2013.

3) The Spion Kop wind farm, first phase of the Rim Rock wind farm and the Rainbow Dam upgrade were completed. Progress was made on completing MATL under new owner, Enbridge.

4) We constructed water and sewer lines to serve the first lots of the Great Falls AgfriTech Park. The Black Eagle Road project was completed.

5) Pacific Steel & Recycling, Church Harris Johnson & Williams and Easter Seals Goodwill started construction on downtown redevelopment projects. Developers announced plans for the Arvon Block and the Rocky Mountain Building. The new Downtown Partnership was formed.

6) Development of the Great Falls Branding Strategy was completed.

7) GFDA created 3 new loan funds to provide business, real estate and non-profit gap and bridge financing.

8) Great Falls and the surrounding trade area saw a number of business starts, expansions and new businesses, including a number of new facilities.

9) The Great Falls metro area climbed 50 places in the Policom metro area Economic Strength ranking. Cascade County enjoyed an increase of $1 million in property tax revenue. From November 2011 to November 2012, the metro area unemployment rate dropped from 5.5% to 4.9%, the labor force grew by 453 and the number of employed people grew by 644.

10) Great Falls was named SBA Montana Small Business Community of the Year. GFDA won 5 awards from the International Economic Development Council, the most of any economic development organization in the US. GFDA earned accreditation from IEDC, becoming the first economic development organization in the Rocky Mountain West to earn accreditation. We also won two awards from the National Association of Development Organizations, the only awards earned in Montana.


Three partner achievements of big significance to Great Falls in 2012 include:


1) Benefis Health Foundation started development of The Grandview at Benefis and opened the Cascade Ridge affordable senior housing development.

2) Great Falls International Airport and the Chamber succeeded in attracting Frontier Air to serve Great Falls, and Frontier has announced plans to come back for seasonal service in 2013. Construction started on expansion of the airport terminal.

3) Great Falls College MSU constructed its Child Development Center.


All of these successes are the result of strategic thinking, hard work and investment throughout the Great Falls community. Economic growth requires a team effort. Congratulations Team Great Falls for excellent progress in 2012!
