Top 10 for 3-17-2013

Here's the GFDA Top 10 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!

1) The Great Falls City Planning Advisory Board and Zoning Commission voted in favor of three important projects: expansion of the MaltEurop tax increment financing district to include the new ADF Group site; creation of a TIF district for the Great Falls AgriTech Park and Montana Advanced Biofuels; and, rezoning for the Calumet Montana Refining Company.
2) Met with a local primary sector business that wants to expand with a new facility and with a national retailer considering Great Falls.
3) Closed a loan to Big Sky Auto Transport in the amount of $171,756 in partnership with First Interstate Bank. The company also received business strategy support from GFDA in this successful effort to grow their business.
4) Testified in Helena in support of the state recognizing new hydroelectric generating capacity as renewable energy, the Blue Cross Blue Shield merger with the non-profit Health Care Services Corporation, and our desire for Great Falls to become part of the state's agri-processing development center network because, after all, we ARE the center of Montana agri-processing!
5) The first cohort of Great Falls Entrepreneur Elite embarked on the year long journey of peer learning through PeerSpective Roundtables. These monthly meetings allow business owners to confidentially discuss pressing growth issues with peers. If you're interested in being part of the next set of Entrepreneur Elite, contact Rebecca Engum at or 771-9032.
6) Our business strategists worked with a wide variety of companies this week. We assisted a client with a USFS solicitation and helped several companies set-up new SAM accounts and review solicitations to pursue government contracting opportunities. We worked with a start-up on focused relationship marketing, equipment financing options and increasing net profit, discussed financing options for a growing tourism business and helped an entrepreneur considering a business purchase with assessing debt service capacity.
7) Issued an RFQ to find a consultant to help us develop a new web site strategy and design a new site that incorporates our Great Falls brand. The RFQ will be posted on our web site Monday or you can get a copy from Jolene Bach at
8) Great Falls College MSU announced that starting this fall, students will be able to begin earning a BS in Civil Engineering, completing their first year in Great Falls then transferring to Bozeman for the final three years.
9) We welcomed Sheldon Page to the GFDA team. Sheldon is our new intern from the University of Great Falls. He's studying Business Administration and expects to graduate in December.
10) For years, local businesses have been asking us for help with improving employee culture. We're now offering corporate culture training: Transform employees into positive, productive partners, enthusiastically focus on opportunities, and eliminate negativity and unproductive behaviors.
