Top 10 for 4-7-2013

1) We submitted three Great Falls area sites for a 300 acre industrial lead.

2) Worked on financing for a local primary sector business expansion, with another industrial business on rail access and with a developer proposing two projects in Great Falls.
3) Closed loans totaling $247,774 to Mighty Mo Brewing Company in partnership with Stockman Bank. Mighty Mo is a new brewery that will be opening in downtown Great Falls this fall. We also assisted the company with market research, cash flow projections and business planning.
4) We worked with six separate entrepreneurs this week, including two established business owners looking to finance expansions, three proposed start-ups and one potential purchase of an existing business. We reviewed cash flow projections and market analyses, how to structure strong bank financing packages, improving profitability through focused market research, managing accounts receivable days, restructuring debt and the value of pegging against industry standards.
5) Received 21 responses to our RFQ for web strategy and design services from consultants in Great Falls and across the state and country.
6) Participated in a roundtable held by Senator Max Baucus to discuss how we can use the upcoming Montana Economic Summit to attract new businesses and business opportunities to the Great Falls trade area.
7) Testified before the Montana Senate Appropriations Committee to urge funding of the Primary Worker Training program that has been a critical component of high wage job creation in Great Falls, including Centene, EMTEQ, AvMax and the ADF Group.
8) GFDA's Board undertook a SWOT (Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats) exercise of GFDA as part of our ongoing strategic planning process. We're constantly looking to improve in order to generate maximum return on investment for our public and private investors.
9) High Plains Financial's membership elected five new members: Chris Christiaens, Project Specialist with Montana Farmers Union; Cheryl Curry, Executive Director of the Pondera Regional Port Authority and Owner of Curry Cattle; Todd Hanson, Owner of the Norsman Group; Mike Hawthorne, Market President with First Montana Bank; and, Jane Weber, Cascade County Commissioner.
10) The retail leakage report I mentioned earlier this week identified some excellent retail opportunities in Great Falls. According to the report, 40% of what we spend on Clothing & Clothing Accessories is spent elsewhere. Leakage for Camera & Photographic Equipment is 40%. Computer & Software 80%, probably due to the high amount of Internet purchases in this category. Of course, this was just a summary study. We encourage entrepreneurs to undertake extensive market research before investing. If you would like more information on the leakage study, contact Jeremiah Johnson at If you would like to access our market research resources and expertise, contact Rebecca Engum at
Congratulations to 3 new Great Falls businesses: the Umami restaurant downtown that everyone is raving about; Tradehome Shoes that just opened at the Holiday Village Mall; and, Euphoria Events by Design, launched by our former and very creative team member Jamie Gormley!

Congratulations to the Homebuilders Association of Great Falls, sponsors and exhibitors for another successful sold-out Home Show!
