Top 11 for 4-22-2013

1) Great Falls College MSU became the first welding test facility in the United States to be accredited by both the American Welding Society and the Canadian Welding Bureau! The outstanding team at the College accomplished this in record time!

2) We worked on an Economic Development Infrastructure loan application for the ADF Group and on a Big Sky Trust Fund application for EMTEQ's proposed expansion.
3) Health Care Service Corporation reached an agreement with state officials that commits the company to create at least 100 jobs in Montana by 2016 as part of the deal to Blue Cross Blue Shield Montana. The company's earlier analysis showed Great Falls has the best workforce to meet its needs.
4) Moderated the energy panel at the International Economic Development Councils federal forum in DC with representatives from the US Dept. of Energy, American Petroleum Institute and Environmental Defense Fund. A Texas-based site selector in the audience committed to visiting Great Falls.
5) Provided market research to two different entrepreneurs that enabled them to see the hottest industry trends and identify potential suppliers and trade association resources for their start-ups. Worked with an entrepreneur on pricing structure and accounts receivable policies for a new venture. Worked with a small business to identify set-aside opportunities in government contracting.

6) Assisted a developer with a Targeted Brownfields Assessment application to EPA to fund a Phase 1 analysis prior to purchasing a downtown property.
7) The City Commission adopted an improved tax increment financing application process, as well as rezoning on first reading for Calumet Montana Refining.
8) Governor Bullock signed SB 239 that improves the state's tax increment financing statute. Thank you to Sen. Ed Buttrey for sponsoring this important piece of legislation!
9) Networked with leaders of SBA, EDA, USDA, DOE, US Treasury and DOL and with Montana Congressional staff in DC.
10) GFDA Board Chair Gene Thayer appointed immediate past Chair John Koppelman to chair our Nominations Committee. Bob Butcher of US Bank, Allen Funderburk of Grabofsky, VanHeel & Funderburk, and Spencer Woith of Woith Engineering will serve on the committee.
11) The Montana Dept. of Agriculture announced a special short-term Growth Through Agriculture grant round. Agricultural producers and processors needing equipment or infrastructure in order to sell to schools and institutions can apply for a grant up to 50% of the cost (maximum $10,000).
