Top 10 for 6-16-2013

1) We exhibited at the North American Gas & Oil Show in Calgary in the US Pavilion and met with a wide variety of companies involved in energy industries. 

2) Members of the Entrepreneur Elite participated in our monthly PeerSpectives Roundtable, a cornerstone of The Growth Initiative. Business owners provided updates on activity since last month and shared personal experiences regarding two specific pressing issues. 3) Worked with an entrepreneur on refining a business plan for a start-up, focusing attention on cash flow and market analysis. Worked with a pair of young entrepreneurs who are considering the purchase of an established business and discussed the next steps to secure financing. Met with a downtown business owner regarding expansion ideas and the steps to move the ideas into reality.

4) The City Planning Advisory Board unanimously recommended the Growth Policy Update to the City Commission.

5) The City is kicking off the start of putting together a new Long Range Transportation Plan with an informational meeting on June 19 at 6:00 PM in the Civic Center's Missouri Room. As with the Growth Policy Update process, we encourage business leaders to get involved.

8) The Montana Chamber and the University of Montana are hosting the 8th Annual Economic Update in Great Falls on August 8, 7:00 AM at the Hilton Garden Inn. Register at

9) The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at the University of Montana released a new study that details nonresident traveler expenditures for 2011-2012. Averaging the two years to get better accuracy, the report says that in Cascade County nonresident visitors spent $230 million, generating economic activity that supported 2,800 jobs, $72 million in payroll, $13 million in proprietor income and almost $19 million in state and local taxes.

10) Here's an interesting agri-processing factoid. OECD reported this week that Chinese oilseed imports are expected to increase 40% by 2022, accounting for 59% of global trade.
