Top 15 for 6-30-2013

1) Great Falls College MSU was awarded a $1.5 million federal grant to expand the College's welding program! Thank you to Governor Bullock's team and the Montana Congressional delegation for helping with this important effort!

2) Hosted an out-of-state manufacturing prospect on a visit to Great Falls. Thanks to the community leaders who stepped up to the plate to show off our assets on short notice!
3) Travelled to the midwest to meet with the senior leadership of a corporation considering a major industrial investment in Great Falls.
4) The first steel columns were erected for ADF International's Great Falls Fabrication Facility!
5) Closed a $386,980 bridge loan to Bullhook Community Development Center to support the construction of their new healthcare facility in Havre. The financing package includes US Bank and our New Markets Tax Credit partner, the Montana Community Development Corporation.
6) Worked with a local entrepreneur working on a second location for their business; discussed market analysis, financing and strengthening their business plan. Assisted a business with registration and certification issues in the federal government's System for Awards Management (SAM) so the company could receive its contract awards.
7) Produced a new agri-processing industry marketing flyer and booth graphics in preparation for the Institute of Food Technologists trade show we'll be exhibiting at in July. We're holding a planning session Monday, July 1st, 10:30 AM at our office for GFDA investors and local agri-processors.
8) Scaffolding went up at the Arvon Block redevelopment downtown. We toured construction of the new downtown Easter Seals Goodwill headquarters. The new downtown sculpture and murals look amazing! Congratulations to all involved!
9) The state gave final approval to Health Care Service Corporation to purchase Montana Blue Cross Blue Shield with the proviso that the company create 100 new jobs in Montana.
10) We submitted a proposal to the Montana Department of Agriculture to become a Montana Food and Agriculture Development Center to keep growing and diversifying this important Great Falls trade area industry cluster.
11) We submitted a proposal to the Montana Department of Commerce to continue to host the Great Falls region's Small Business Development Center for another 7 years. Thank you to Great Falls College MSU for providing partnership support to strengthen our proposal!
12) Reviewed the draft design for our new web site.
13) We're closing out our fiscal year today and would like to thank our outgoing private investor GFDA Directors for their tireless efforts to grow and strengthen the Great Falls economy. Thank you John Goodnow of Benefis Healthcare System, John Koppelman, retired from Wells Fargo, Mark Mehta of Mehta Properties, Sara Sexe of Marra Sexe Evenson & Bell PC, and Henry Woloszyn of Optimum!
14) Thank you also to three of our public partner GFDA Directors, former State Senator Trudi Schmidt, former Speaker Mike Milburn and Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Crawley! Welcome to new GFDA Directors: Superintendent Tammy Lacey, Senator Ed Buttrey and Representative Casey Schreiner!
15) In Fiscal Year 2013 we helped finance 13 businesses that created 91 jobs. Our loans of $4,164,254 leveraged $12,520,182 in total investment.

Kudos to the Montana Department of Transportation for the new landscaped traffic island being constructed on 10th Avenue South!
