1) Calumet Montana Refining announced it is investing $275 million to double the capacity of its Great Falls refinery, creating 35 new high wage primary sector jobs!

2) At GFDA's Annual Meeting, EMTEQ's CEO announced the addition of 40 new primary sector jobs in Great Falls in the next few months! The company has applied for state Primary Training funds to support 80 new jobs over the next two years.
3) We closed a $1,056,000 SBA 504 loan to Comfort Inn of Great Falls in partnership with Mountain West Bank to finance the local purchase and renovation of the hotel. SBA 504 loans offer 20-year low interest fixed-rate loans of up to $5.5 million for commercial property purchase, construction and renovation. Equity requirements as low as 10%! 4) The Farran Group is moving ahead with plans to construct a 214 unit apartment complex and clubhouse near Centene!
5) Construction started on Embark Federal Credit Union's new branch on 10th Avenue South.
6) Worked with the Montana Department of Commerce and the US Commercial Service on an international agri-processing prospect visit to Great Falls later this month.
7) The City Commission approved the updated Growth Policy, Imagine Great Falls 2025.
8) Reviewed two business plans with entrepreneurs looking to purchase established operations in Great Falls. Discussed the need for more detail regarding regulations affecting one business and processes for the other. Worked with an entrepreneur on potential business structures for a proposed new operation in the region. Worked with a business and contracting officer to resolve errors in their System Award Management (SAM) record so payments could be processed.
9) GFDA investors are encouraged to get involved in our planning for two upcoming trade shows. On Monday, August 19th, at 11:00 AM we'll meet at GFDA to plan for the AACC agri-processing show and at 3:30 PM we'll meet to plan for the Oil Sands Show in Ft. McMurray. 10) Our Small Business Development Center is now offering all businesses in the region Strategic Organizational Assessments. This tool focuses on eight key areas of your company's organizational effectiveness. The tool works well for sole proprietors or management teams. Contact Rebecca Engum at or 771-9032.
11) Start-Up Spark! will be held Tuesday, August 13th at Noon at GFDA in the downtown US Bank building, 300 Central Avenue, Suite 406. Anyone interested in starting a business is welcome to attend this open office hour session.
12) GFDA's Board reappointed Loan Committee members for FY 2014: Chair, Allen Funderburk, Grabofsky Van Heel Funderburk; Teri Anderson, Mountain West Bank; Scott Blumfield, Grubb & Ellis - Catalyst; Bob Butcher, US Bank; Tim Culliton, Pacific Steel & Recycling; Dan Majerus, Stockman Bank; Mark Mehta, Mehta Properties; Jennifer Reichelt, City of Great Falls; Sheila Rice, NeighborWorks Great Falls; and, Chad Simonson, First Interstate Bank.

13) For FY 2014, GFDA's representative to the Montana Defense Alliance is Amy Beames, Benefis Health Systems. Our representative to the Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is Glenn Lambert, Cascade Farmers Mutual Insurance. I'll continue to represent us to the Downtown Development Partnership and the Montana Economic Development Association.
