GFDA Top Twelve 9-2-13

1) Worked with a local business owner who wanted to restructure existing debt. Reviewed the final draft of a start-up business plan and talked with the entrepreneur about how to approach local banks. Helped a would-be entrepreneur with a loan application for a proposed start-up.

2) We've worked with over 50 farms and ranches since June to help with their new NRCS contracts. So far, 29 of these clients have received award notifications totaling over $3.7 million.
3) Networked with industry professionals at the Montana Petroleum Association's annual meeting in Billings.
4) Scheduled the first meeting of the Downtown Development Partnership's Economic Restructuring Committee. 5) Reviewed proposals from 3 national consulting firms that the Tourism Business Improvement District is considering to conduct a feasibility study for new or expanded event facilities in Great Falls.
6) Dowl HKM is hosting our next Development Coffee this Friday, September 6 at 7:00 AM. This monthly conversation brings together contractors, developers, engineers, workforce development, housing, education, City staff, GFDA staff and others for an open dialog regarding development projects. 7) Our Small Business Development Center is creating a new entrepreneur training center in our office. The center will enhance our ability to serve clients both face to face and over the Internet.
8) The Great Falls Branding Alliance completed their work and now it's time to enter the action phase: the Great Falls Marketing Alliance! Our first meeting will be this Thursday, September 5th at 1:30 PM at GFDA. Everyone is welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Jolene Bach at or 1-406-750-4481.
9) We're organizing an Ignite Montana! session at this fall's Montana Economic Development Association's conference in Sidney. The hour-long session will feature the 12 most innovative economic development ideas put to work in Montana in the last year.
10) Montana scored in the top 10 in several categories of Business Facilities magazine's annual state rankings. We scored 3rd in Lowest Industrial Electricity Rates, 8th in Best Business Tax Climate, 9th in Renewable Energy Leaders (Power Generation) and 10th in Credit Quality.
11) Fall investment checks have started to flow in from our fantastic GFDA investors. Everything we do is made possible by these leading businesses, organizations and agenciues. Thank you investors!!
12) Last week, I had the honor of spending a day at the White House with 60 economic development leaders from across the country and across the political spectrum. We met with senior administration and agency officials including the Secretary of Commerce. Organized by the White House Business Council, Select USA and the International Economic Development Council, the White House Economic Development Forum sought to find common ground on critical economic development issues including access to capital, skilled workforce, infrastructure, potential for manufacturing re-shoring and foreign direct investment, and making better use of our economic development programs.
