GFDA Top 25 1/12/14

Here's the GFDA Top 15 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!
 
1) The Front Brewing Company announced it's expanding production, building a  second manufacturing facility that will be located in downtown Great Falls. GFDA is financing the project in partnership with Stockman Bank.
2) Buffalo Wild Wings plans to build a new restaurant on the west side of Great Falls. American Property Development is moving forward with plans to build 24 new apartments on the east side of town. The Homebuilders Association of Great Falls is moving to new offices downtown.
3) Worked with a national site selector investigating locations for a potential distribution business. Worked with an existing primary sector business looking at expansion options. Started working with an energy developer on proposed new projects in the region.
4) Worked on financing structure options for an existing Great Falls business expansion. Underwrote a bridge loan for a new commercial construction project in Great Falls.
5) Helped a start-up entrepreneur to determine capital needs for inventory cycles and to analyze a building purchase for the new business. Worked with an existing business owner on monthly budget goals for 2014, including strategies to increase revenue, maximize current customers and better manage employee performance. Assisted entrepreneurs looking at purchasing an existing business to analyze historic financial performance, research market potential to increase revenue and ways to structure the purchase.
6) About 150 GFDA investors and community leaders gathered to hear Great Falls economic development plans for 2014 and Governor Bullock's plans for the state. The Governor also visited Centene, Pasta Montana and the ADF Group.
7) We laid down a five point challenge to GFDA investors for 2014: 1. Be innovative with your business to find a way to create at least one new job; 2. Recruit a new resident or returning resident; 3. Refer a business or entrepreneur to GFDA; 4. Spread the positive news about the economic momentum we have going for Great Falls; and, 5. Recruit a new investor for GFDA so we can continue to grow and diversify the regional Great Falls economy and support the creation of high wage jobs.
8) We were invited to participate in The Janus Institute meeting with leading site selection consultants next month on the Gulf Coast.

10) GFDA's Board unanimously voted to extend the President/CEO's contract for an additional 3 years.
11) The Great Falls Food Manufacturing Group meets this Wednesday, January 15th at 9:00 AM. The Group meets regularly to find solutions to common challenges and is an effort coordinated by Great Falls area food manufacturing companies, the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center and the Small Business Development Center at GFDA. 12) Do you know amazing women business owners? Nominations are now open for The Fire Within awards. The Inspire award will recognize a woman owner of an established company who has made a significant personal contribution to its success, growth or expansion, as well as her leadership and involvement in the community. The Aspire award will recognize a woman business owner who has recently realized her dream by starting a new business venture. Her early success and accomplishments show her creativity, passion and drive, as well as her potential for growth within her field. 14) Start-up Spark!, an open office hour session where you can get basic information about starting a business and get your questions answered, will be held at GFDA at noon on Monday, January 13th and Wednesday, January 22nd, GFDA Small Business Training Center, US Bank building, 300 Central Avenue, Suite 406.
15) 2013 was a great year for Montana wheat and barley production! Montana growers produced 203 million bushels of wheat, up 4% from 2012. Durum production was up 9% and barley up 7%. Dry edible pea production was up 64%!
