GFDA Top 11 2-16-14

Here's the GFDA Top 11 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!

1) ADF announced a 42,000 square foot, $6 million expansion of its Great Falls manufacturing operation. The self-financed specialized paint shop will employ about 40 additional workers. Construction is set to begin in March and be completed in September. For a peak at the Great Falls fabrication plant, check out the virtual tour at www.ADFgroup.com
2) Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 The Fire Within awards: Inspire Award winner Penny Rubner, owner of Penny's Gourmet to Go, and Aspire Award winner Janet Neil, owner of Bert & Ernie's! Thank you to everyone who nominated amazing women entrepreneurs! Selecting one winner for each award is very difficult for our "Crowning" Committee. Join us on March 27th for The Fire Within Celebration, connecting women business owners, recognizing award winners and congratulating all the women who created news businesses in 2013. The evening is provided by Embark Federal Credit Union, Great Falls Development Authority's Small Business Development Center, University of Great Falls, Fern Films, Crooked Tree Coffee and Cakes, O'Haire Motor Inn, Clark & Lewie's & Sip N'Dip Lounge, and Great Falls Tavern Association. RSVP to attend by emailing Lillian Sunwall at LSunwall@GFdevelopment.org
3) Met with Big Sky EDA, Missoula Economic Partnership and Governor's Office of Economic Development to explore ways we could better coordinate our business attraction efforts to increase return on investment for GFDA investors and the entire state.
4) The Great Falls Food Manufacturing Group meets Wednesday, February 19th at 9:00 AM at the Holiday Inn. The Group meets regularly to find solutions to common challenges and is an effort of Great Falls area food manufacturing companies, the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, Montana Department of Agriculture and GFDA's Small Business Development Center. 8) Learn and share from your professional peers! 9) GFDA's statewide low interest loan participation product is back for one last round of business expansion deals. This is a very time-sensitive opportunity. If your company is contemplating expansion, contact Tamariel Christopher for more info at TChristopher@GFdevelopment.org or 1-406-771-9026.
10) Politico collected a number of state rankings. Montana scored 2nd in Highest % of High School Graduates (91.9%), 3rd in 8th Grade Reading Scores, 3rd in Lowest Obesity Rate (22%), 6th in Gallup's Highest Reported Wellbeing, and 7th in 8th Grade Math Scores.
11) The Rand Corporation published a very important comprehensive study, The Future of the U.S. Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Force. Key findings included: that USAF has successfully demonstrated its ability to extend the service life of MissileMan 3 missiles (MM III) at low cost and low program risk; that sustaining MM III and gradual upgrades is a relatively inexpensive way to retain capabilities; any new ICBM system will likely cost twice or three times as much as incremental modernization and sustainment of MM III; and, silo-basing will likely continue to be the most cost-effective option for the foreseeable future.

Kudos to the Great Falls Ad Club for holding a career day at Great Falls College MSU for 100 area high school students!

Congratulations to the Great Falls Americans hockey team for bringing 16 teams to town for the Casey Cup tournament and for a great season!

Rebecca says THANKS to Linda McPherson of Montana Academy of Salons and Linda Michaels Salon & Spa for PeerSpective Roundtable support!
