GFDA Top 16 2/23/14


Here's the GFDA Top 16 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!
1) Networked with site selection consultants, corporate real estate executives and economic development leaders at the Janus Forum and met with companies in the Midwest.
2) Worked with an area entrepreneur to improve bookkeeping and how to use financial data to make management decisions. If you are looking to improve your business management through better understanding of what your financial statements are telling you, contact Rebecca Engum at 1-406-771-9032 or
3) Worked with a downtown business owner on an expansion financing application. Assisted a client to prepare for an upcoming trade show booth; discussed goals and objectives for the show, promotion ideas and how to measure and use results.
4) Worked with the owner of a downtown building to look at next steps in moving forward to clean-up hazardous substance contamination. 5) Hosted our first quarterly CEO Forum. Bill Simmons of MasterLube in Billings told his story about starting out and making a commitment to developing his employees. Bill's approach to employee development is to create a culture of High Performance in which a contract exists with every new employee to be the best they can, while being supported by their employer.
6) Helped the Great Falls Area Food Manufacturers Network determine what the future of their group looks like. The Network members set a vision to Develop World Class Food Manufacturers. The Network's mission is to Engage Regional Food Manufacturers to effectively share resources, experiences, ideas & solutions. 7) Engaged with business leaders and community members at the Calumet Montana Refining open house. Signed up interested people to receive our weekly Top 10. 8) The Great Falls City Commission approved property tax abatement for the Arvon Block historic redevelopment and approved the site for Buffalo Wild Wings to build in the City.
9) Salt Lake Express started bus service connecting Great Falls to Salt Lake City and the I-15 and I-90 corridors.
10) In our excitement to announce The Fire Within award winners last week, we failed to mention two of our wonderful sponsors. Euphoria Events by Design and Reflections of Light are part of the team that make The Fire Within a special event.
11) The Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and Malmstrom AFB joint program, Great Falls Great Friends, seeks to connect Airmen with local community families. 15 outstanding Airmen are currently waiting to connect with Great Falls families. 15) Jeremiah Johnson, our VP of Business Development, attended the International Economic Development Council's Real Estate Development & Reuse course in Baltimore. This is a required course to achieve the professional Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation that Jeremiah plans to test for in 2015.
16) More good news about Montana. State residents lifted Montana to 5th place in Gallup's annual Well Being poll, a step up from 6th last year. Montana kids are also doing well. Compared to 47 countries, Montana 8th grade student mathematics test scores tied for 4th and science test scores tied for 6th, according to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics.
