Local Entrepreneur Wins Award

SBA Names 2009 Home-based Business Champion of the Year
HELENA, MT – Shelley Lighter, owner of SAL Design in Great Falls, has been named SBA’s 2009 Montana Home-based Business Champion of the Year. Lighter will be honored at an awards luncheon in Missoula on June 5, 2009, along with a cast of other outstanding award winners.

Shelley Lighter is seen by her peers as a life-long entrepreneur. Early in her career she started Lighter’s Helicopter Charter Business, flying R-22 Robinson’s, but today, she chooses to maintain an innovative home-based business manufacturing microwave baked potato sacks, while also serving as a SCORE volunteer specializing in working with businesses looking to start up or refine a home-based operation.

Lighter’s experience in home based operations qualifies her to serve as a mentor on reducing overhead and maintaining a business that strives to meet personal objectives. She is a staple in the local Women’s Entrepreneur Network that provides a resource for area business women to gain guidance and share experiences from other female entrepreneurs.

The flexibility that Lighter has with a home-based business has allowed her to be very involved in her community. Beyond volunteering to assist other businesses, Lighter has remained active in the local Chamber of Commerce, Toys for Tots, American Red Cross, Montana State Fair, Montana Military Affairs and the Great Falls Civic Center Cultural Board.

Lighter is an award winning advocate and hospitality professional who gives freely of her time and knowledge to assist others. She is committed to her community and is passionate about having a home based business that provides her the lifestyle of her choosing.
