GFDA Top 12 5/25/14

 Here's the GFDA Top 12 for last week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!

 
1) Networked with developers, retailers and commercial brokers at RECon 2014: The Global Retail Real Estate Convention. Discussed potential retail developments and prospective retail brands, restaurants and hotels for Great Falls' future.
2) Worked on marketing techniques with an existing business. Assisted two entrepreneurs looking at purchasing businesses. With one discussed financing options, product research, market penetration and historic financial performance. With the other discussed historic financial performance and project sources and uses of funds.
3) The City Commission approved a Big Sky Trust Fund grant application to support the Calumet Montana Refining expansion. 4) The Celtic Cowboy Restaurant & Pub and Dick Anderson Construction received historic preservation awards from the Great Falls/Cascade County Historic Preservation Advisory Commission. Great job!!

6) GFDA's Forward Great Falls Annual Meeting of Investors will be held Thursday, July 24, 11:30 AM-1:30 PM. Bill Johnstone, CEO of Davidson Companies, will give a special presentation on putting the new Main Street Montana Plan into action. Register at http://bit.ly/GFDAInvestorMeeting
7) The Great Falls Association of Realtors, working with employers and community groups, is organizing the Great Falls Workforce Housing Summit on June 19th. The summit will feature national, state and local speakers discussing employer-assisted housing, the regulatory environment, developer/builder finance options, rental development and homes for sale development. 8) In preparation for the Housing Summit, the Realtors Association wants to hear from employers about housing needs. Please take a few minutes to complete a survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MG8X6M9
9) Help us Reimagine the Great Falls Visitor Center! The Great Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tourism Business Improvement District and GFDA invite all interested businesses and organizations to attend a special walk through of the Great Falls Visitor Center on Thursday, June 5th, 4:00-5:30 PM to brainstorm ideas for remaking the center.
10) Our next Start-Up Spark! for new entrepreneurs is this Wednesday, May 28th at noon at GFDA. Start-Up Sparks! are open office hour question and answer sessions for new entrepreneurs or those considering becoming an entrepreneur. Attend in person or via Skype. All attendees receive our free Business Start-up Kit by email following the session. 11) The Great Falls metro area scored well in several rankings in Area Development magazine's annual Leading Locations report. We were ranked in the 11th percentile (40th out of 379 metro areas) for prime workforce indicators. We ranked in the 3rd percentile (12th) in 3 Year Change 2009-2012 in workforce 18-44 years with bachelors degree or higher and in the 19th percentile (71st) in total inward migration bachelors degree or higher as % of total workforce. We ranked in the 15th percentile (56th) for 1 year change December 2012-2013 in wage and salary growth average hourly earnings.
12) Montana was ranked 3rd best state for military retirees by Wallet Hub.
