GFDA Top 18 June 1

Here's the GFDA Top 18 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!
1) ADF International celebrated the grand opening of its 100,000 square foot steel fabrication plant and announced it has broken ground on a 42,000 paint shop at the company's 100 acre Great Falls complex!
2) The Great Falls metro area climbed another 11 spots in Policom's 2014 Economic Strength Ranking of U.S. metro areas. Great Falls has improved its ranking for 8 straight years, climbing above 199 other metro areas since 2006!
3) Worked with several primary sector clients on expansions. Began work with a client to develop a financial structure that will help the company manage cash as it grows. Assisted a disabled veteran owned business with registration, marketing and research to prepare for bidding on a state contract.
4) Worked with an entrepreneur to determine revenue and expense implications of hiring staff and how to develop staff to insure sufficient revenue. Provided affirmation to a local entrepreneur that the business is headed in the right direction in regard to researching costs of production and pricing.
5) The Great Falls Airport Authority released U.S. Department of Transportation statistics documenting that GTF is now the least expensive airport in Montana! Ticket prices in Great Falls have gone down 22% since 2008, while the national average ticket price has risen 10%.
6) The City Planning Advisory Board approved plans for another 24 apartment units on the north side of town.
7) We exhibited and networked at the Montana Manufacturing and International Trade Day hosted by the Montana Chamber of Commerce and its Montana Manufacturing Council.
8) We signed up to exhibit at the Compete Smart Montana Manufacturing Conference in October being produced by the Montana Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
9) Began networking with national site selection consultants today at the Area Development Consultant Forum in Columbus, Ohio.
10) Worked to prepare for upcoming Global Petroleum and Institute of Food Technologists Expo trade shows that we'll be exhibiting at this month.
11) GFDA's Nominations Committee presented a slate of candidates of FY 2015. Thank you to committee chair Gene Thayer of Montana Milling and members Spencer Woith of Woith Engineering, Bob Butcher of US Bank, Ron Nelson of Church, Harris, Johnson, and Williams PC, and Kreg Jones of Davidson Companies. Nominated to join the board are Mike Waldenberg of Central Plumbing and Heating, Mary Jaraczeski of Ugrin, Alexander, Zadick & Higgins, Nick Newman of Sletten Construction, Tim Peterson of L'Heureux, Page, Werner, and Jim Voegele of The James Company. Incumbents nominated for re-election are Dexter Busby of Calumet Montana Refining, Bob Butcher of US Bank, Deb Evans of Embark FCU, Allan Frankl of Dick Anderson Construction, Jerry Hood of Edward Jones, Ted Lewis of First Interstate Bank, and Eugene McAllister of the University of Great Falls. Ballots will be mailed tomorrow to GFDA Investors.
12) Participated in the Loenbro Leadership Summit which provided an opportunity to learn and practice successful coaching skills to create better working teams. Thank you Loenbro for offering this amazing opportunity to develop leaders in our community!
13) Jeremiah Johnson, our VP of Business Development, participated in and completed the Managing Economic Development Organizations course as part of the International Economic Development Council's coursework to become a Certified Economic Developer.
14) The Downtown Development Partnership released statistics for the first quarter of 2014 showing 5 new downtown businesses, $1.5 million in capital investment and 8,257 volunteer hours!
15) The Downtown Development Partnership also announced it's accepting applications for Downtown Facade Improvement Design grants of up to $1,200 per property. Contact Joan Redeen at the Downtown Business Improvement District for an application, 1-406-727-5430.

17) NeighborWorks Great Falls' annual Most Improved Property Awards Ceremony will be held Tuesday, June 10th, 3:30 PM at NeighborWorks Great Falls.
18) Join the Great Falls CVB, TBID and GFDA this Thursday, June 5, 4:00 PM for a brainstorming walk through of the Great Falls Visitor Center.
June closes out the 12th year of the Forward Great Falls effort to grow and diversify the Great Falls regional economy and support the creation of high wage jobs. It's going to be an exciting month so stay tuned!
