GFDA Top 15 July 1, 2014

Here's the GFDA Top 15 for last week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward!

1) There are 849 job openings listed at the Great Falls Job Service. Help us fill these great jobs!!! Contact your friends, family, colleagues, enemies and strangers and tell them that Great Falls is growing, offers economic opportunity and is a fantastic place to live! Job listing available here!
2) We exhibited and networked with food and agri-processing companies and industry leaders at the Institute of Food Technologists' Annual Food Expo in New Orleans.
3) Provided market details, financing, incentive, tax, workforce and site information to a national food processor considering an expansion project in Great Falls.
4) Assisted a local business to resolve an issue with DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) to enable the company to obtain a CAGE Code to bid on government contracts. Helped a client modify its business profile to be more effective in targeting government contracting opportunities. Worked with an expanding area business on a portion of its financing package.
5) The High Plains Financial Board approved a $2.967 million SBA 504 loan for a new business in Montana for a $9.625 million new construction project.
6) Spoke at an SBA Lender Roundtable in Butte about the advantages of SBA 504 loans. Contact Jennifer Rogers to learn how 504 loans can lock in low interest rates for 20 years and reduce your required equity to as low as 10%; JRogers@GFdevelopment.org or 1-406-771-9033.
7) Participated in the McLaughlin Research Institute's National Development Council meeting to discuss future opportunities. To date, the Institute has brought over $70 million in biomedical research to Great Falls to help unlock the secrets behind degenerative brain diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
8) The median age of Cascade County residents went down for the 3rd straight year, according to estimates released by the US Census Bureau! We've dropped from a median age of 38.9 years in 2010 to 38.1 years in 2013. This may not sound huge, but if the trend holds to the 2020 Census it will break a 40 year track record of steadily increasing median age in the county! A younger median age is used as an indicator of community vibrancy and attractiveness in retaining and attracting young adults and families.
9) Private investors in the Forward Great Falls effort have elected new directors to GFDA's board, including Nick Newman of Sletten Construction, Tim Peterson of L'Heureux Page Werner, Jim Voegele of The James Co., Mike Waldenberg of Central Plumbing and Heating, and Mary Jaraczeski of Ugrin, Alexandar, Zadick & Higgins, PC. Congratulations and thank you to this business leaders!
10) The Main Street Montana Project is holding a Great Falls Regional Planning Meeting on August 19th from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM at Great Falls College MSU. The goal of the regional meeting is to facilitate a work session that focuses on the five pillars, goals and objectives of the Main Street Montana Business Plan to identify regional priorities, formulate action plans and form work teams.
