Top Sixteen 3/23/15

Here's the GFDA Top 16 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward.
1) The City Commission voted unanimously to approve the Helena Chemical project in the Great Falls AgriTech Park and to approve the East End Retail Center. Helena Chemical plans to start construction this year on a 23 acre complex on lots 3 and 4 in the AgriTech Park. The East End Retail Center will feature a 189,000 square foot retail store and 4 out parcels.
2) SBA approved a $554,708 High Plains Financial 504 loan to Elkin Family Dentistry to help finance the construction of a new facility on Bobcat Way in Great Falls. First Interstate Bank is the lead lender on the project. 3) Worked with three agricultural processing prospects considering building new plants in the Golden Triangle.
4) We have one more 20 acre fully-served heavy industrial lot with rail in the Great Falls AgriTech Park for construction start this season; asking $30,000/acre. 6) Finalized the survey for the Labor Demand Study we've commissioned to help determine the hardest to fill jobs in the Great Falls labor market. The survey will be sent to 100 selected companies very soon. The Great Falls Job Service has 849 on job postings.
7) Twelve new women business owners will be honored at The Fire Within event this Thursday March 26th. Congratulations to these new 2014 entrepreneurs!
8) Networked with businesses at the Montana Chamber Manufacturing and International Trade Day events in Helena. It's great to hear the positive buzz about Great Falls from leaders across the state!
9) Presented information about GFDA's business assistance and financing services to over 20 business owners at an event in Cut Bank hosted by USDA Rural Development. We cover the entire Golden Triangle and are always looking to help entrepreneurs start, grow and locate companies. 10) Met with representatives of leading national foundations in DC to discuss how foundations can use their financial investments to spur economic development in smaller states such as Montana. Thank you to the Council of Development Finance Agencies, Mission Investors Exchange and the Council on Foundations for organizing the discussion.
11) We had two team members out of state pursuing professional development this week. Lillian Sunwall participated in the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers conference. Jason Nitschke completed the National Development Council's Real Estate Finance course, part of the rigorous process of becoming certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional. They are both back in town so contact them to take advantage of their new knowledge.
12) Scheduled more appointments with companies at the SelectUSA Investment Summit in DC that started today.
13) Registration is now live for the Montana Economic Development Conference & Leadership Event we're hosting in Great Falls May 4-6. Titled "Impact! Learning, Sharing & Partnering for High Performance," the event will feature outstanding keynote speakers sharing economic development best practices from across the globe. Sessions include Community Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure, Housing, Finance, Manufacturing and Downtown Revitalization. Click for more information and registration.
14) If you can't attend the entire conference, save the date for a very special Great Falls community workshop on Monday, May 4, 3:00-5:00 PM, in Heritage Hall at Great Falls College MSU featuring Della Rucker of The Wise Economy Workshop. Della is one of the country's leaders in creating successful community entrepreneur and small business economic development efforts, tourism and downtown revitalization. Thank you to the Great Falls Tourism Improvement District for making this special workshop possible.
15) Forbes included Great Falls in its 2015 Best 25 Places to Retire list!
16) Outside magazine named central Montana's American Prairie Reserve as the Best of the Wild West places to visit!
