GFDA Top 12 for 11/22/15

Here's the GFDA Top 12 for this week, celebrating great things happening to move Great Falls Forward.

1) Great Falls metro area per capita personal income grew 4.2% in 2014, according to data released this week by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Our income growth was 17% higher than the national average, the highest of any Montana metro area, and the highest amongst the 7 largest Montana counties. Our growth ranked 79th amongst all 380 metro areas in the country.

2) The Great Falls Downtown Development Partnership held its annual meeting to celebrate continued progress in downtown revitalization. Since the Partnership's founding 4 years ago, there have been 163 building permits issued downtown with a total value of $26,113,280. Fifty-six new businesses have opened, of which 45 remain in business. Volunteers have donated 94,405 hours to support downtown!

3) Met with an out-of-state developer visiting Great Falls to learn more about our retail market. Worked with several primary sector companies considering investment in the Great Falls trade area.

4) The Farran Group has submitted plans to the City to add 72 units to the very successful 216-unit Talus Apartment Homes, another big step forward in our efforts to add much needed quality rental units.

5) The High Plains Financial Board approved a $92,000 SBA 504 loan to help finance a rural business acquisition and improvements in Choteau County.

6) Great Falls International Airport completed improvements to its entrance and parking facilities, including the addition of 341 parking spaces to keep pace with growing passenger loads using the airport. More details in the Great Falls Tribune article here.

7) Sletten Construction started work on an exciting addition to the River's Edge Trail, the new riverfront path between the Warden Bridge and the 6th Street Southwest Bridge. This will make the trail system a two river system, so perhaps we should change the name to Rivers' Edge Trail!

8) Began reviewing terms of a proposed business sale for an existing client. Began assisting a new client in loan packaging to purchase an existing business. Reviewed cash flow projections and projected income statements for a business planning to expand. For assistance in putting together a loan package, contact Jason Nitschke at JNitschke@GFdevelopment.org

9) The City Commission approved a change in the PUD zoning for the Cottage Grove residential development, giving the developer flexibility to construct shared lot-line townhouses. This is an important step in providing affordable workforce homeownership opportunities in Great Falls.

10) KerMiTz children's boutique will open in downtown Great Falls this Saturday, November 28th, known as Small Business Saturday. The children's apparel and gift store at 710 Central Avenue will fill a niche in Great Falls with unique children's clothing, "Mom" gifts and infant wear. Check out their website at www.kermitz.com

11) Montana maintained its ranking as having the 6th Best State Business Tax Climate in the annual ranking published this week by the Tax Foundation. We ranked 3rd in Sales Tax, 9th in Property Tax, 18th in Unemployment Insurance Tax, 20th in Individual Income Tax, and 23rd in Corporate Tax. The states ahead of us in the overall ranking are Wyoming, South Dakota, Alaska, Florida, and Nevada.

12) Montana ranks as the top state for telecommuting, according to FlexJobs.com, with 7.1% of the workforce telecommuting full time.
