GFDA Top 10 For The Week

Here is the GFDA Top Ten for this week:
1) Great Falls City Commission approved contract to extend utilities for the MT Eggs expansion under construction on Stuckey Road.
2) Sen. Max Baucus and Canadian Consul General Dale Eisler announced GFDA's trade mission to Calgary August 10-12. We invite businesses interested in developing or expanding opportunities in Alberta to join us. Baucus stated, "I am so proud of the Great Falls Development Authority for leading Montana businesses in furthering opportunities and connections with our important trading partners to the north." Details will be released in the coming weeks.
3) Great Falls Brand Alliance selected Northstar Destination Strategies to guide brand development efforts. The company is the nation's leading city branding firm and has helped over 120 communities develop powerful brand strategies.
4) Released the Great Falls Regional Transportation Report; highlights were presented to leaders from throughout the trade area. The report identifies market-driven opportunities in air cargo and logistics, truck backhaul, support for Alberta energy development and intermodal shipping.
5) Launched our new Small Business Credit Initiative low-interest loan participation program and began working with several companies on this financing opportunity. Interested companies should contact us immediately as these funds are going quickly.
6) April preliminary employment data for Cascade County was released today. We gained 213 jobs in April, lowering our unemployment rate to 6.2%. We've gained 984 jobs in the first four months of 2011. However, we are still down 220 jobs from our best April ever in 2008; down 488 jobs from our historic month peak in June, 2008. In April, 2,557 unemployed residents in Cascade County were looking for a job.
7) Received final award of a $137,500 grant from the US Small Business Administration to help develop and market new financing tools for businesses in the region. Thank you to our Congressional delegation for their help!
8) Participated in the National Economic Gardening Conference with the Lowe Foundation.
9) Participated in an Export Finance & Market Access Workshop in Bozeman.
10) Rejoined the Board of the Montana Economic Development Association.
