GFDA Top 14 For The Week

Lots to cover this week and last, so here's the GFDA Top 14:
1) High Plains Financial Board approved a $1.76 million SBA 504 loan for a high tech data center project.
2) Team member Rebecca Engum was named the State Star of the MT Small Business Development Center Network at the SBA annual awards event. Congratulations Rebecca! 
3) Led a panel about the MT Advanced Biofuels project at the Ethanol Producers and Consumers (EPAV) annual conference in Great Falls and met with several of our biofuel prospects.
4) Joined with one of our lending partners, the Montana Community Development Corporation, to present a New Markets Tax Credit Workshop in Great Falls.
5) Worked with the US Commercial Service and Sen. Baucus's staff to finalize details of our Alberta Business Exchange in Calgary August 10-12. Interested businesses should register with Jamie Gormley at or 1-406-771-9020.
6) Great Falls City Commission approved a policy waiver allowing a $150,000 loan to M&L Rentals to create 8 new downtown apartment units above the Subway/Downtown Dog House building. Commission also approved first reading of I-2 Heavy Industrial zoning for the first 125 acre phase of the Great Bear Innovation Park.
7) Hired Jacob Cowgill of Conrad to conduct a survey in the region to assess interest amongst agricultural producers and processors in shared equipment or facilities.
8) Northwestern Energy filed a request with the MT Public Service Commission to purchase and operate the proposed $81 million, 40 MegaWatt Spion Kop wind farm in Judith Basin County being developed by Compass Wind.
9) Conducted first interviews for two new team positions: Small Business Strategist and Office Manager/Accountant.
10) Capital Campaign Planning Committee interviewed finalists to assist with our next capital campaign and made a unanimous recommendation to our Executive Committee.
11) Great Falls AgriTech Park Task Force met to review details of rail plan and municipal utilities.
12) Confirmed MaltEurop, Montana Milling, Montana Specialty Mills and Pasta Montana to participate in the agri-processing session we're presenting at the MT Farmers Union Ag Summit June 25th in Great Falls.
13) MT Dept. of Commerce increased our grant by $11,514 for our new high-growth second-stage company initiative modeled on successful "economic gardening" efforts in a number of regions around the country.

14) University of MT's Bureau of Business and Economic Research released Nonfarm Labor Income growth projections for Cascade County: 2.7% for 2011, 2.4% for 2012, 2.3% for 2013 and 2.3% for 2014, compared to 1.8% in 2010.
